PE.fiberoptics
fiber test equipment has measured the chromatic dispersion and PMD
of a live traffic-carrying transoceanic fiber network. Operating the
CHROMOS11-CL-PMD, engineers from the Wokingham site have recently
demonstrated the new “In-band” capabilities of this unique
portable optical analyzer over a world record distance of 15500 km
on a submarine link from the USA to Europe and back to the USA. This
evaluation on a link including hundreds of optical amplifiers proved
conclusively that the product delivers what customers need most -
fast, accurate data on complete end to end networks. Using the
CHROMOS11-CL-PMD, automated transoceanic measurements of Dispersion,
PMD, Group Delay and Transmitted Optical Power were taken in less
than 5 minutes.
The CHROMOS11-CL-PMD uses its specially ruggedized tunable laser sources to measure fiber, dispersion compensators, EDFA’s and DWDM components within the modern optical network architecture.
The CHROMOS11 is part of the family of portable PE.fiberoptics fiber test equipment. Providing improved accuracy in wavelength and dispersion, compatibility with amplified fiber links and direct dispersion measurement over C and/or L bands, the CHROMOS11-CL-PMD enables accurate performance of state of the art 10 and 40Gbit/s DWDM systems to be predicted and optimized.
